Kivelstadt Cellars was founded on our love of outstanding California vineyards. After leaving a career in consulting, Jordan Kivelstadt traveled the world making wine in California, Australia, Chile, and Argentina. For his inaugural vintage in 2007, Jordan made 125 cases of Syrah from his family’s estate vineyard. He drew inspiration both from his new world experiences and for European cuisine, art, and culture.
Our focus is exploring incredible California vineyards with a nod toward the rich history and balance of old-world wines. Today, the winemaking reins are expertly guided by Sam Baron, who obtained his degree in Viticulture and Enology took him all over the world. He joined Kivelstadt in 2017 after finding that he and Jordan’s philosophies aligned.
Our production has grown to 6,000 cases annually. We are currently distributed in more than 25 states and continue breaking the mold by opening California’s first Winegarten in 2020. We strive to create wine, and food, that maintains a fun, approachable, and accessible style while challenging the status quo of California winemaking.
The base for everything we do is the Kivelstadt Vineyard. Nestled in the hills 4.5 miles northwest of Glen Ellen, the vineyard’s volcanic shallow soils and steep terrain forces vines to struggle for nutrients and water. Of course, this struggle is the trademark of many of the greatest wines and vines in the world.

Eco Terreno’s philosophies align completely with Kivelstadt’s. Because the vineyard is farmed biodynamically, we were ecstatic when Sam found the 50-year-old vine Sauvignon Blanc. It is rare to find Sauvignon Blanc nines this old.

The old, gnarly Carignane vines were planted in 1877, making them the oldest Carignane in California. The vineyard is Certified Organic, head trained, and dry farmed. Brett Domenichelli manages the vineyard continues to astound us with painfully low yields (1.5 tons/acre), but incredibly concentrated fruit.
